13 July 2005 Ocean Wave, Sevastopol
(July 13, 2005)
Paul Bentley joined the team today, who worked on taking final measurements on the site. Paul B. and Kimm teamed up to measure the bowsprit, jib boom, and figurehead, and then went to work on gathering details of the windlass and sampson post.

Gregg and Paul L. finished mapping in the transom and began searching the debris field to determine the extent of the debris field as well as to locate and document structures and artifacts throughout the field. The Ocean Wave was carrying a stone cargo quarried at Mud Lake (known today as Moonlight Bay just north of Baileys Harbor). She was bound for White Lake, Michigan, with stone for a harbor improvement project when she was lost. Today the stone cargo remains within the wreck site and spreads off the port quarter for approximately 150 feet, intermingling with hull structure and small artifacts, such as a cast iron pot used for cooking.

Tom and Ethan returned to their assigned sections which they began working on yesterday along the collapsed port side, while Tami and Keith finished documenting the bow. The evening was spent transferring the final measurements to the site plan, and areas requiring further detail were identified and assigned for Thursday’s dives.
