15 July 2005 Ocean Wave, Sevastopol
(July 17, 2005)
Calm seas once again returned to the Ocean Wave, and water temps improved dramatically as well: 68° water was encountered to 30 feet deep, 51° water to 80 feet, and 44° water on the bottom. The warm water was a trade off for visibility, however, which had dropped to a mere 30 feet on site.
Today the forward cargo hatch was discovered off the port side, broken and laying amidst a debris field of decking. Surprisingly, the forward hatch was 19 feet long, considerably longer than the aft cargo hatch, which measured 4.8 feet long by 6.4 feet wide.
Paul B. documents the anchors
The last day for most team members, the day was spent taking final measurements for any areas that required further documentation. Paul Bentley documented the anchors and bilge pump, Tom Milbrath finished documenting the port side framing, Gregg Mikolasek trilaterated major hull structures, Paul Lothary documented the forward cargo hatch, Tamara Thomsen documented the site with still photographs and took final measurements of the centerboard trunk, and Keith Meverden took final measurements on the bow framing.
