Archaeological work began on the site today. Objectives consisted of site setup, shoreline mapping, and the investigation of another site near the wreck. After a brief meeting in the morning, the class divided into three groups. Dr. Rodgers, Sami Seeb, and Stephanie Allen went to Sunset Park to establish a datum and begin mapping the shoreline. Dr. Richards, Dina Bazzill, and Michelle Liss investigated a nearby wreck determined to be the side of a scow schooner. Tiffany Pecoraro, Brian Diveley, and Adam Morrisette established the baseline on the site.

From snorkeling the day before, it was determined that there was a slight bend in the keelson near the stern. It was decided that it would be best to run the baseline along the majority of the keelson that is straight and map in the deviation near the stern, simpler than creating an angle in the baseline. After staging the fence posts, baseline, come-a-long, and post driver, 170 feet of baseline was laid along the centerline of the vessel with posts pounded into the bottom off the bow and stern. Mapping of the site will begin tomorrow.
