Notes From the Field

Follow a chronicle of shipwreck exploration as underwater archaeologists from the Wisconsin Historical Society (WHS) examine historic shipwrecks and other submerged archaeological sites throughout Lakes Michigan and Superior.

A WHS underwater archaeologist

A WHS underwater archaeologist takes measurements at the bow of the schooner Lumberman. Lost off Oak Creek, Wis. in 1893, the well-preserved schooner rests in 55 feet of chilly Lake Michigan water.
